Love it or Change it…Starting to love it, or is it too soon?
The next morning the four of us headed out on our morning
walk with an extra bounce in our steps after sleeping in our own beds and
traipsing up our familiar street to find our familiar bunnies and to poop (the
dogs, not us) in the usual places with just the right smells and foliage. It
was a happy morning, still a little strained getting the kids fed and then
sorted into their back rooms for the day with water, beds, litter boxes, and
food, but we managed happily and arrived at work after our usual, known
commute.

Master bath, out of commission.
That evening the doubt seeped back in as to our decision to move back into the house, when we came home to a
garage once again filled with tools and building materials with no room for the car, further work on the
master shower and toilet, so that there was only one toilet in the house available to us,
and the master bath pretty much completely unusable.

Shower, final paint and drywall.
Our only source of water
was the guest bathroom sinks and laundry room, in which the faucet is woefully inadequate for washing
dishes.

Rolo making the best of it.
The balance of the kitchen cupboards were delivered that day, and so now
the kitchen was even more full of boxes, but the promise of construction to begin the next day in the kitchen made it worthwhile, even if the car would have to
stay outside on the driveway for the night.
We soldiered on, T making a dinner of salmon sandwiches
(salmon she cooked on the BBQ in the desert the previous day), and then set back to
more cleaning. I redid the TV in the family room and washed the dust off the
couches, tables, and lamps. Some of the speaker wires had been damaged when
removed and I couldn’t seem to get the back speakers to work again, that will have
to be a task for the weekend in the daylight, after a trip to purchase some new
speaker wire and attachments.
Our two family room lamps were damaged in the fray, the
stand lamp just the shade, but the table lamp has a dented base and bent center
post, it must have been dropped or had something bashed against it. Unfortunately
the lamps are a few years old and will likely be difficult to replace with
similar, and we really like them. Overall, there are a few damaged things that
we will address with the GC once we do our final walk through, but so far,
anything I’ve mentioned has quickly been resolved, or has a promise to do so,
so we’re cautiously optimistic that all will be well, other than those lamps…

Angel, hard at work.
Wednesday the cupboard installation began, we met the
cabinetmaker when we got home, a darling fellow who takes great pride in his work, creating
precision and art at once with his hands. I met with the GC the next afternoon
at the house, there were nine workers all furiously completing their various
tasks, the garage and driveway was covered in sawdust, numerous power tools and
cutting implements, there were at least five work trucks parked around the
street and driveway. It passed across my mind that the neighbors might be a
little annoyed at all the disruption, but it wouldn’t be much longer…right?!?
It was getting exciting, the shower door had been installed
and the wall around the opening to the master shower had received its final
coat of paint. The shower was o-p-e-r-a-t-i-o-n-a-l…we could use it in the
morning!! It looks beautiful, so excited to take it for a test ride!! The
kitchen was starting to resemble our kitchen again, and the cupboards are
absolutely gorgeous, the new pantry is awesome, and it all seems so BIG!
